This 5-week generative writing workshop is taught by poet and writer Dorothea Lasky (author of the forthcoming The Shining) and poet, writer, and witch Lou Florez (author of The Modern Art of Brujería).
Building on a collaborative teaching method they have developed in a program founded three summers ago called WitchCraft, Lasky and Florez will guide students through two full moon celebrations on July 2 and 30. These celebrations will bookend the course and will include generative writing and ritual work aimed at helping students harness the power of the full moon to infuse their creativity.
The middle three sessions of the course (July 9, 16, and 23) will be focused on creating a space for students to get feedback on their work. Workshops that combine tarot divination, as well as instructor and peer feedback, will help students see their work in new ways.
Each week will have a theme inspired by the glamour and playfulness of the month of July. These themes will guide the focus of discussion, influence literary texts brought in, and inspire the writing exercises that are shared with students. These themes will be: Week 1 (Confetti), Week 2 (Tinsel), Week 3 (Sprinkles), Week 4 (Glitter), and Week 5 (Shimmer).
